Danish badminton star and two-time Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen is facing an uncertain future after a recurrence of his back injury, which could potentially end his career.
According to his doctor, Morten Zebitz, Axelsen is suffering from another disc herniation, linked to long-term strain from high-level competition. His condition is currently not improving as expected.
After undergoing back surgery following the All England Open last year, he returned after six months but managed only four tournaments before the injury resurfaced. He has not competed since October.
Medical advice suggests avoiding further surgery, raising doubts about his ability to return.
Since defending his Olympic title at the Paris 2024 Olympics, injuries have continued to affect his career, forcing multiple tournament withdrawals this season.
