According to a report from Kuai Technology on November 24, media sources recently claimed that Hyundai’s Chongqing plant had been taken over by Changan Automobile and would soon serve as a production facility for Deepal. In response, a spokesperson from Deepal confirmed today: “Such a plan does exist, but details regarding production timelines and models remain undisclosed.”

Public information shows that the Chongqing facility was Hyundai’s fifth vehicle manufacturing plant in China and was regarded as one of its most advanced domestic factories. The plant had been listed for sale multiple times before being acquired by Liangjiang New Area Investment for 1.62 billion yuan.

Currently, Changan has production capacity in the Liangjiang New Area, while Deepal’s manufacturing bases are primarily located in Nanjing and Beijing. With Deepal’s rapid growth and expanding product roadmap, the company’s production needs are increasing. Deepal is developing its second-generation vehicle platform and plans to launch 30 models before 2030.

Deepal’s confirmation of “having such a plan” indicates that the company is actively evaluating additional capacity through the potential takeover of the Chongqing plant.
