(Hong Kong, March 31) According to Hong Kong media reports, veteran actress Shi Ming, the former wife of actor Li Ka-ding, passed away on March 21 at the age of 74 after succumbing to pneumonia despite emergency treatment. The news has deeply saddened family members and friends.

As reported by HK01, Shi Ming had previously suffered a serious head injury after a fall at home, requiring brain surgery and nearly a year of treatment and rehabilitation before recovering and returning to her family. Her condition had stabilized in recent years, but her health suddenly deteriorated, leading to her passing.

Her son, Lee Wing-hon, who had cared for her for many years, is still struggling to come to terms with the loss. Recalling her final hospitalization, he became emotional, noting that his mother had always undergone regular check-ups and had no major health issues.

This time, however, complications arose when she aspirated vomit into her lungs, causing a sharp drop in oxygen levels and requiring intubation. Although her condition initially appeared stable, it worsened rapidly. Lee revealed that he was unable to see his mother one last time before her passing.

He shared, “Early that morning, the hospital called to say my mother was in critical condition and being resuscitated. I rushed there, but by the time I arrived, she had already passed away. I didn’t get to see her one last time.”

Lee also mentioned that his mother did not leave any final words. In fact, she had previously faced a life-threatening situation at the end of 2024, when a urinary blockage led to sepsis and multiple organ failure. She underwent three brain surgeries within a month, and doctors had advised the family to prepare for the worst. Remarkably, she pulled through and was discharged.

He reflected sorrowfully, “We thought she had overcome the hardest time, but we never expected this outcome.”

Describing her as a devoted mother, Lee said she chose not to remarry for the sake of her children, dedicating her life to the family. He added, “I wanted to continue walking life with her, not just see her off at the end.”

Shi Ming was also known for her deep love of animals, especially dogs, which she treated like her own children. She often said dogs are more loyal and spiritually sensitive than humans and deserve extra care and patience.

Lee confirmed that he had informed his father, Li Ka-ding, who was also deeply shocked and saddened by the news, struggling to accept the loss.
