(Macau, March 31) China’s Sun Yingsha opened her 2026 Table Tennis World Cup campaign with a dominant 3–0 victory over Li Yuzhun in the group stage.

Speaking after the match, Sun expressed satisfaction with her performance: “Overall, I think I played quite well. My focus and rhythm at the start were solid.” Facing her opponent for the first time, she emphasized staying focused on her own game rather than adjusting too much to the unfamiliar opponent.

Looking ahead to her next match against Mesheva, Sun noted the challenge of facing a left-handed player: “I’ll use the next day to prepare properly. My priority is to perform well in the group stage and secure qualification before thinking about the knockout rounds.”

Reflecting on her pre-tournament closed training camp, Sun described it as a crucial phase: “We had about 10 days of intensive training after the Chongqing Champions event. I feel improvements in both fitness and technique.” She added with a smile that her biggest takeaway was weight management, which has enhanced her movement and speed on court.

As for the possibility of winning a third consecutive World Cup title, Sun remained composed: “I haven’t paid attention to those discussions. Past results are behind me—this is a new tournament. All participants are top-level players, including continental and youth champions.” She stressed that her focus remains on each match: “The goal is to take it one step at a time and first get through the group stage.”
