(Beijing, March 31) The WCBA playoffs have reached the quarterfinal stage, where the best-of-three format leaves little room for error. Defending champions Guangdong women's basketball team were eliminated after losing 0–2 to the Jiangsu women's basketball team.

The series highlighted both determination and fatigue, particularly from players like Yang Shuyu and Yang Liwei. Over the past year, the team has endured an intense schedule—national team duties, continental tournaments, and domestic competitions—leaving little time for recovery.

Just one year ago, Guangdong (Dongguan) completed a remarkable championship run, defeating a powerhouse Sichuan team featuring stars like Li Meng, Wang Siyu, and Han Xu. Yang Shuyu was named Finals MVP, symbolizing the team’s rise.

Since then, however, the physical toll has been significant. Frequent national team commitments have disrupted rhythm and drained energy. While Yang Shuyu remains the team’s offensive engine, her explosiveness has visibly declined.

Injuries and aging have also played a role—key contributors like Dilina have been limited, while veterans such as Huang Sijing and Yang Liwei have seen reduced impact.

On the other hand, Jiangsu displayed better balance and execution. With a strong mix of youth, reliable imports, and disciplined tactics, they controlled key moments more effectively.

Across two games, Jiangsu proved more consistent and deserved progression.

For Guangdong, this exit marks not an end, but a reset. After a season of relentless competition, recovery and restructuring may be the key to their next resurgence.
