Kyle Anderson Signals Willingness to Return: Eyes World Cup and Olympics with China
On April 2, Kyle Anderson confirmed his intention to represent China again when asked by fans: “Yes, I think—World Cup, then the Olympics.”
His response has reignited optimism about his return to the Chinese national team.
Anderson became China’s first naturalized player in July 2023, holding one-eighth Chinese heritage. He made his debut shortly after, recording 11 points and 6 rebounds against Italy in a warm-up tournament.
At the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, he averaged 13 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists across five games. Despite China missing Olympic qualification, Anderson’s individual performance stood out.
Since then, he has not rejoined national team camps. However, as of April 2026, his agency confirmed he still holds Chinese citizenship and remains eligible to represent the team. Anderson himself has repeatedly expressed willingness to return if called upon.
His agency emphasized that he is not a typical “mercenary naturalized player,” noting his family ties and roots in China, and even hinted at a potential future in the CBA.
This season, Anderson has played for the Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies, and Minnesota Timberwolves, appearing in 37 games with averages of 6.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, while shooting efficiently from both the field and beyond the arc.
Across his NBA career, he has played 751 regular-season games, averaging 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists—valued for his versatility and consistency.
With his renewed commitment, Anderson could once again become a key piece in China’s international ambitions.
