In the men’s singles quarterfinals of the Table Tennis World Cup on April 4, Wang Chuqin produced a stunning comeback. Trailing 1-3, he removed the kinesiology tape from his arm and went all-in, eventually defeating Darko Jorgic 4-3 to reach the semifinals.

Just a day earlier, Wang had battled hard to overturn Félix Lebrun 4-2. Entering this match, he held a perfect 6-0 record against Jorgic and was widely favored. However, after winning the first game, he lost three straight and found himself on the brink of elimination.

The turning point came in the fifth game. Down 2-4 early on, Wang made a bold move—he walked to the sidelines and tore off the tape on his arm, choosing to fully commit despite the risk.

The decision paid off immediately. Even when trailing 6-9, Wang fought back to win the game 12-10. With momentum on his side, he went on to take the sixth and seventh games, completing a remarkable comeback.

After the match, Wang explained: “The tape felt too tight, and my timing was off. I thought removing it might help.”
