São Paulo FC have officially confirmed the termination of their contract with Oscar. The agreement, initially reached in February, was finalized and approved by the Brazilian FA on April 2, marking the end of what was expected to be a two-year stint.
The decision comes after Oscar collapsed during training and was diagnosed with a heart condition, forcing him to step away from professional football. In a remarkable gesture, he waived more than 50 million in remaining wages, requesting only the payment of his previously earned salary.
Oscar was once a key figure for Brazil, known for his creativity and goal contributions. He featured in the 2014 World Cup, though the painful 1-7 semifinal loss to Germany remains a defining moment of his international career.
Following that period, Oscar moved to China during the peak of the CSL era, becoming a central figure at Shanghai Port FC. He enjoyed great success there, particularly in 2024 when he led the team to a domestic double (league and FA Cup).
Over the years, Oscar established himself as one of the most influential and successful foreign players in the club’s history, earning both trophies and substantial financial rewards. His early retirement due to health concerns marks the end of an era—one that left a lasting impression on fans.
