Another Qingming Festival has arrived.
On April 4, 2026, actress Wang Qian once again visited the grave of director Xu Qingdong. This marks the 12th consecutive year she has honored him during Qingming, in memory of a relationship that lasted two decades.
In the footage she shared, the gravesite is adorned with fresh flowers, along with items he once favored—liquor, cigarettes, and snacks. These small details have become part of a ritual she has quietly maintained over the years.
The two first met in 1994 while filming Angry Sea Beauty, and their professional connection gradually evolved into a long-term partnership. Despite a 23-year age difference, they built a shared life both personally and professionally.
In 2001, Xu directed the hit series Serious Case Group Six, which brought Wang widespread recognition for her role as Ji Jie. Their collaboration continued for years, shaping both their careers.
Though they had planned to marry, circumstances repeatedly delayed the process, and they never formally registered their union.
In 2014, Xu Qingdong passed away at the age of 69, leaving behind Wang and their young daughter.
Without legal marital status, Wang faced practical challenges in handling posthumous matters. She later raised their daughter on her own and continued to honor his unfinished work.
Over several years, she completed his long-developed script and brought it to screen as Ah, Cradle in 2021.
Today, her life remains quiet and grounded. Yet each Qingming, she returns to the same place—continuing a bond that time has not erased.
