TV King Wayne Lai Receives “Handsome” Cheers in Malaysia, Jokes: Malaysians Are Too Honest

(Kuala Lumpur, 17th) Three-time TVB Best Actor Wayne Lai made a special appearance in Malaysia to support travel company Joy Paradise and meet fans at an exclusive event, with Toby Leung making a surprise appearance in support.

As he took the stage, both the host and audience couldn’t stop praising his good looks, repeatedly calling him “handsome.” Laughing, Lai responded with his signature humor: “Malaysian friends are really honest!”

A frequent visitor to Malaysia, Lai joked in a local tone, “I’ve come here many times already!” He shared that every visit feels warm and familiar, with locals often calling him “Cheung Jai” or “Chai Kau Gor,” making him feel like he’s among old friends.

A self-proclaimed travel enthusiast, Lai said his favorite part about visiting Malaysia is the food: “Every trip feels different. Not only do I grow closer to the people here, but I also discover more amazing food each time.”

He also revealed that he has just completed filming the travel food show “Jiang Hu Jian 2.” Following the success of its first season, TVB quickly commissioned a sequel: “We visited many places again and enjoyed a wide variety of cuisines. It will be airing very soon.”

Now in his 41st year in the industry, Lai said his greatest achievement is connecting with audiences through his roles. When asked about his favorite character, he laughed: “Too many to choose from!” As for bringing those roles into real life, he joked: “Better not—characters like Chai Kau or Zhu Bajie are too exhausting!”

Speaking at an event promoting customized Japan travel, Lai noted that Hong Kong people love visiting Japan. Toby Leung added humorously: “Going to Japan is like going to Macau—we go at least once a year for food, skiing, and shopping!”

Lai shared his preferred travel style: “Half planned, half spontaneous—no rushing around.” He added playfully: “Maybe we’ll run into each other in Japan next time—just remember to say you’re from Malaysia!”
