(Hong Kong, 17th) The most emotional highlight of last night’s episode (16th) of “Justice Goddess” was undoubtedly the powerful scene featuring late veteran actor Hui Siu Hung, who portrayed Hung Sze-yee, tearfully apologizing to his son Hung Chi-hang (Kelvin Yau) and finally saying, “I love you.” The moment deeply moved audiences.
In the storyline, Chi-hang refuses to testify and remains silent, leaving his parents, Sze-yee and Luk Yuen-ping (Akina Hong), extremely worried. Meanwhile, lawyer Yin Wai-chi (Charmaine Sheh) suspects that the “dried seafood shop theft case” is linked to Chi-hang’s friend Chan Pak-chuen (Lam Chun Kei).
At a critical moment, Chan appears and confesses, taking full responsibility and clearing Chi-hang’s name. Later, Wai-chi and Sze-yee track down a key witness from a past double homicide case, proving that Chi-hang had been telling the truth all along and finally resolving years of misunderstanding.
In a heartbreaking prison visit scene, Sze-yee opens up about his long-held guilt, admitting that a slap he gave his son years ago shattered their relationship, causing Chi-hang to distance himself and fall into bad company. Filled with regret, he says, “I often wonder—if I had given you a chance back then, would things have turned out differently?”
The emotional peak comes when Sze-yee recalls telling other parents to say “I love you” to their children ten times. As he tearfully repeats those words to his son, Chi-hang—who had long harbored anger and distrust—finally breaks down, leading to a deeply moving reconciliation.
The two-minute scene showcased Hui Siu Hung’s masterful performance, delivering raw guilt and unconditional love with every line. Viewers praised the moment as “heart-wrenching” and “impossible not to cry,” applauding both actors for their powerful portrayal of a father-son reconciliation.
Kelvin Yau shared in an interview that he was already emotionally immersed during filming: “I deliberately softened my tone and didn’t dare push too hard. Benz (Hui Siu Hung) quickly got into character, and the director decided to capture close-ups first—we entered the emotional state almost instantly.”
He added that he had to hold back tears during Hui’s close-up shots: “Listening to his lines, I was already on the verge of crying, but I had to hold it in until my turn. His rhythm and that expression of deep regret were incredibly moving.”
Yau also revealed that even the director was overwhelmed after filming: “We had built up a lot of emotional depth from earlier family and conflict scenes, so when we reached this moment, everything naturally came together. The director said it gave him goosebumps.”
