(Kuala Lumpur, April 18) In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the China–ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the “Hong Kong–Malaysia Cultural Exchange and Creative Industry Globalization Initiative & Wah! Drama Launch Ceremony” was held on April 17 at Sunway Velocity Mall, bringing together artists and industry players from Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Renowned Singaporean filmmaker Jack Neo attended the event and shared that he is actively exploring opportunities in the short drama market. He revealed that he currently has at least 10 short drama scripts in development but highlighted funding as a major challenge: “The biggest headache is the lack of investment and monetization platforms.” He emphasized that both film and short-form content industries are evolving rapidly, requiring creators to stay closely aligned with market trends to remain competitive.
As a key outcome of the initiative, the short drama platform “Wah! Drama,” developed by Xinhua Media Group, was officially launched. The platform aims to aggregate short dramas and microfilms from China, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia, while collaborating with CinemaSHORT to support emerging directors and expand their global reach.
The event also introduced the first AI-produced animated short series, “Welcome to the Infinite Clearance Train,” which utilizes artificial intelligence for storyboarding and visual generation. The project highlights the growing role of AI in content production and is planned to evolve into a multi-season IP.
The public is invited to attend the event over the next two days, featuring short drama screenings and interactive experiences, offering a closer look at the future of creative content and the short-form entertainment industry.
