TV King Wayne Lai Receives Warm Welcome in Malaysia — Fans Call Him “Handsome,” He Laughs: “Malaysian Fans Are So Honest”

(Kuala Lumpur, April 17) Three-time TVB Best Actor winner Wayne Lai recently visited Malaysia to appear at a promotional event for Joy Paradise, where he also held a fan meet-and-greet. Actress Toby Leung made a surprise appearance in support, adding to the lively atmosphere.

As soon as Wayne Lai stepped on stage, both the host and audience repeatedly praised him as “handsome,” prompting him to laugh and respond, “Malaysian friends are really honest!”—instantly winning over the crowd.

A frequent visitor to Malaysia, Lai jokingly mimicked the local accent, saying, “I’ve come here many times already!” He shared that he always feels a sense of familiarity when visiting, as fans often greet him warmly with nicknames like “Cheung Jai” and “Chai Kau,” making it feel like reconnecting with old friends.

An avid traveler, Lai admitted that one of his favorite parts of visiting Malaysia is the food. “Every time I come, I discover something new—and the food just keeps getting better,” he said.

He also revealed that he recently wrapped filming for the travel-food show Jiang Hu Jian 2, following the success of its first season. “We visited many places and tried a lot of amazing food. It’ll be out soon!” he shared.

Marking his 41st year in the industry, Lai reflected that his greatest achievement is connecting with audiences through his roles. When asked about his favorite character, he laughed, “Too many!” but joked that bringing those roles into real life would be exhausting.

With the event centered around Japan travel packages, Lai noted that Hong Kong people love visiting Japan, while Toby Leung humorously added, “Going to Japan feels like going to Macau—we go at least once a year!” Lai shared his own travel style: “Half planned, half spontaneous—no need to rush.”

He ended on a playful note, saying fans might run into him in Japan someday: “Just come say hi—and tell me you’re from Malaysia!”
