(Hong Kong, April 19) The 44th Hong Kong Film Awards officially kicked off tonight, with the first award of the evening — Best New Director — going to Shu Qi for her film Girl. Entering as the frontrunner, she triumphed over competitors including Juno Mak, securing the win with strong momentum.

Making her directorial debut, Shu Qi had already gained significant recognition with Girl, sweeping awards at various international film festivals and local pre-awards, showcasing remarkable promise as a filmmaker. This latest achievement further cements her success.
