These days, even getting a marriage certificate can come with a twist.

Recently, singer Ma Di and actress Li Chun shared a hilarious detail from their marriage registration on the show Viva La Romance. Turns out—their marriage certificate was partly handwritten.

Here’s what happened: when they went to register their marriage, the character “頔” (Di) in Ma Di’s name was too rare for the system to process. Staff spent nearly 20 minutes trying to input it, but failed. In the end, they had to manually write the character on the certificate and stamp it to complete the process.

Once the story came out, netizens couldn’t stop joking. Some said, “That’s next-level rare character energy—even the system gave up.” Others joked, “This certificate is basically a limited edition—more valuable than printed ones.”

Of course, some people wondered whether a handwritten entry would still be legally valid.

Officials from the Hangzhou Civil Affairs Bureau clarified that while most rare characters can now be entered digitally, in cases where the system fails, manual additions are allowed and fully compliant with regulations.

Lawyers also confirmed that handwritten and printed marriage certificates carry the same legal validity.

Looking back, the couple registered their marriage in May 2025 in Beijing, and officially announced it in October the same year. What seemed like a simple registration actually came with a memorable twist—one where even the system couldn’t recognize the groom’s name.

The character “頔” (pronounced dí) carries a positive meaning—but clearly, it wasn’t so “friendly” to digital systems.

In the end, this small hiccup turned into a unique story in their marriage—one they can probably tell for years to come.
