Hua Chenyu Reportedly Invests 500 Million to Build “Concert Theme Park” — Sudden Cancellation 9 Days Before Show Sparks Buzz

(Beijing, April 24) Chinese singer Hua Chenyu has postponed his highly anticipated “Mars Concert Theme Park 2.0”, originally scheduled from May 1 to May 5 at Fuxian Lake in Yuxi, Yunnan, citing “force majeure” just nine days before the event. The sudden announcement quickly sparked widespread attention.

Earlier, Hua revealed during a concert in Shenzhen that after years of planning, he had acquired three plots of land in Yunnan to develop an integrated “Mars Theme Park 2.0,” combining performances, lifestyle, and immersive experiences. He admitted the project involved massive investment, joking that he had “lost track of the total cost.” Unverified reports suggest total land investment could exceed RMB 1.5 billion (approx. RM870 million).

According to reports, the entire venue was self-built by his team, including over 30 infrastructure systems such as power supply, transportation, and fire safety. The stage alone reportedly cost around RMB 30 million (approx. RM17.4 million) per setup, requiring over 100 trucks and half a month of construction. Highlights included a 72-meter-tall movable stage and a massive 9,000-square-meter screen.

Following the postponement, reports emerged that parts of the site were being dismantled, raising questions about the fate of the massive investment. A planned initiative to donate RMB 10 from each ticket to support Fuxian Lake’s ecological conservation has also been temporarily suspended.

In response, Hua Chenyu’s team announced full refunds for tickets and booking fees, and pledged to cover fans’ travel and accommodation cancellation costs, with total compensation estimated in the tens of millions.

During a livestream on April 22, Hua appeared visibly emotional, wearing sunglasses and wiping away tears multiple times as he apologized to fans: “I’m sorry for the inconvenience.” To make it up to those who had already made travel plans, he spontaneously held a 93-minute “mini concert,” performing several songs live. The stream attracted over 16 million viewers.
