(Taipei, 26th) After 26 years in the industry, Mandopop diva Chou Huei finally held her first concert at the Taipei Arena on April 25—but what was meant to be a milestone moment turned emotional when she revealed a serious vocal condition on stage.
Toward the end of the show, Chou broke down in tears while reading a handwritten letter to fans, sharing that she had lost her voice due to a severe cold three weeks prior. Medical examinations later revealed vocal cord swelling and atrophy. She admitted she relied on medication, including steroids, to complete the performance.
“I don’t know if this will be the last time I sing for you,” she said tearfully, promising to undergo proper treatment after the concert. “If I recover well, I will definitely sing for you again.”
The emotional moment intensified when fans shouted “We love you,” prompting Chou to pause, hold her chest, and take deep breaths to steady herself. She reassured the audience that she would focus on recovery and expressed hope for future reunions.
The concert’s visual concept was inspired by a kaleidoscope. Chou opened the show in a striking red gown, emerging from a castle-like stage set as a “rose queen,” performing classics such as I Really Want to Love You, We Met Too Early, and Letting Go Is Also Love. She shared that saying “Hello, I’m Chou Huei” at the Taipei Arena was a moment she had rehearsed for 26 years.
She later changed into a silver-white outfit for upbeat tracks like I Like It and Curved Moonlight, showcasing a more dynamic side. In contrast, during the emotional segment featuring Lonely City, she appeared in a blue gown, delivering heartfelt renditions of ballads such as Passerby, Love Is Beyond Right and Wrong, and Don’t Cry, earning her the title “Queen of Tears.”
