On April 27 (Beijing time), renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that 23-year-old Tottenham and Netherlands international Xavi Simons has suffered a torn ACL and is expected to be sidelined until 2027.
The injury rules him out of the upcoming World Cup, dealing a major blow to both the player and the national team.
Simons addressed the situation on social media, saying: “My season has come to an abrupt end, and honestly, it’s very hard to accept. Missing the chance to represent my country at the World Cup hurts the most.” He added that he will stay strong and focus on recovery.
The injury occurred during Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, when Simons went down in the 58th minute. Despite attempting to continue, he was eventually stretchered off, with the diagnosis later confirming a serious knee injury.
As a key attacking player valued at around €50 million, Simons has become an essential figure in the Netherlands setup under Ronald Koeman. His absence will significantly impact the team’s creativity and attacking fluidity.
For Tottenham Hotspur, the timing could not be worse. With just four league matches remaining and the club still battling near the relegation zone, losing one of their most in-form attacking players is a critical setback.
