Live-Action The Princess and the Frog in the Works? Colman Domingo Reportedly Developing a Tiana Spin-Off

HOLLYWOOD, July 18 – Disney's beloved animated classic The Princess and the Frog could be getting a new live-action chapter. According to Deadline, two-time Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo is in talks with acclaimed playwright and director Robert O'Hara to co-write a live-action film centred on Princess Tiana.

Sources say the project is still in the early stages of development, with agreements yet to be finalised. Rather than being a direct remake of the 2009 animated feature, the new film is expected to be an original spin-off set within the same universe, similar to Disney's planned Beauty and the Beast spin-off Gaston.

If the collaboration moves forward, it will mark another major step in Domingo's growing career behind the camera. In addition to his acting work, he has written for theatre and musicals, while earning back-to-back Academy Award nominations for Rustin and Sing Sing.

Disney has continued expanding its catalogue of live-action adaptations in recent years, with projects including Tangled and Lilo & Stitch 2 currently in development. A live-action Princess and the Frog spin-off would further expand the story of Tiana, one of Disney's most beloved princesses.

Released in 2009, The Princess and the Frog was Disney's final traditionally hand-drawn animated feature. Set in 1920s New Orleans, the film follows aspiring restaurateur Tiana, whose encounter with the cursed Prince Naveen leads to a magical adventure in search of a way to break the spell.
