Ibrahima Konaté’s future remains uncertain as he enters the final months of his contract with Liverpool. The 27-year-old centre-back is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, yet progress on either a contract extension or a potential move has stalled.

Konaté’s strong performances last season attracted interest from Real Madrid, prompting the player to delay renewal talks with Liverpool. However, over the past 18 months, instability at the club and a dip in form have changed the landscape. According to AS, Real Madrid have now cooled their interest, effectively ruling out a free-transfer move.

Renewal talks at Anfield are also facing obstacles. Reports suggest Konaté earns around £70,000 per week, ranking outside Liverpool’s top 15 earners. The defender is seeking a significant pay rise, but the club are reluctant to offer him a salary comparable to high-profile players such as Isak or Wirtz. This wage gap has become the main sticking point in negotiations.

With Madrid no longer in the picture and talks at a standstill, Konaté’s next move remains wide open ahead of the summer.
