KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 – Malaysian entertainer Royce Lee has officially unveiled the cast of his self-written, self-directed and self-produced Chinese New Year comedy All the Way to Fortune, setting its sights on the 2027 festive box office.

The film features an impressive lineup led by Hong Kong veteran Nancy Sit, Singaporean star Mark Lee, actor Chen Hongyu and Chinese internet sensation Chen Tudou, who shot to fame with the viral hit Ms. Potato.

Chen Tudou made a surprise appearance at the press conference, jokingly introducing herself as a "super international superstar." She admitted she initially thought the invitation was a scam and only felt reassured after learning that Nancy Sit would also be starring.

"I was still worried before boarding the plane and even warned Royce not to confiscate my passport," she laughed, prompting Royce to joke, "I was the one worried you'd stand me up!"

Royce explained that his previous Chinese New Year project had been shelved, leading to the birth of All the Way to Fortune. He also revealed that his popular alter ego "Buck Tooth Mushroom" will finally take centre stage as the film's lead.

Mark Lee, who also serves as one of the film's investors, said supporting Royce was a natural decision as the latter is one of his artistes. He added that healthy competition among Chinese New Year films benefits the industry and offers audiences more choices.

Nancy Sit, meanwhile, will be filming a Malaysian Chinese New Year movie for the first time in her career. The 76-year-old actress joked that she was "tricked" after reading the script because it required her to perform action scenes more suited to someone in their twenties.

"If audiences leave the cinema happy, then all the hard work is worth it," she said.

The cast also includes Singaporean actor Chen Hongyu as a comedic police officer and influencer Wen Shusen, who will make her big-screen debut.

Production for All the Way to Fortune begins in the coming days, with Royce expressing hopes that the film can match the box office success of A Letter to Grandma and reach RM18 million in ticket sales.
