HONG KONG, July 14 – TVB's Midlife, Sing & Shine 4 has unveiled its Top 10 contestants, accompanied by a new promotional campaign celebrating both the contestants' perseverance and Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage.
Under the theme of "craftsmanship," the campaign pairs each contestant with a traditional craft to symbolise dedication, patience and the pursuit of excellence. Heritage artisans were also invited to provide hands-on guidance during the photoshoot.
The newly released photos feature Chow Chi Hong dressed as a Cantonese opera huadan, Ng Yik Wai learning birdcage making, Cheng Ka Sing creating traditional floral signboards, Chan Yuk Pui working as a tinsmith, Cheng Chung Ho experiencing indigo dyeing, and Wan King Shun crafting neon signs.
Chow said singing has become part of his daily life and credited the competition's supportive environment for helping him grow.
"We're all working towards the same goal. Competing with one another has actually made us stronger singers," he said.
Chan Yuk Pui revealed that although he returned to office work after competing in a singing contest more than a decade ago, he never stopped practising.
"Singing is my water, my air and my life," he said, adding that he refused to give up despite the challenges.
Wan King Shun admitted he has always lacked confidence in social settings but hopes the competition will allow more people to recognise his abilities.
"I joined because I want to prove myself to those who doubted me," he said, while promising to improve his emotional expression on stage.
Malaysian contestant Ng Yik Wai described learning Cantonese songs after arriving in Hong Kong as one of his biggest challenges, but said patience and persistence helped him improve.
Meanwhile, Cheng Chung Ho believes the competition has strengthened not only his musical abilities but also his confidence and interpersonal skills.
Toronto-born Cheng Ka Sing, who previously worked as a casino lounge singer in Macau, revealed that he had missed two opportunities to debut as a singer. Nevertheless, he continued writing songs, producing music videos and eventually left his full-time job to focus on preparing for Midlife, Sing & Shine 4.
