(Shanghai, June 28) While many actresses strive to regain a slim figure after giving birth, 35-year-old Chinese actress Wu Jinyan has been receiving widespread praise for embracing a slightly fuller appearance, with many fans saying she looks healthier and more radiant than ever.

The Story of Yanxi Palace star trained in ballet from the age of 10 and has long maintained strict control over her weight. Standing at 165cm, Wu previously weighed around 45kg and once revealed that she would increase her training whenever her weight exceeded that figure, rarely allowing it to go beyond 48kg.

Having maintained a very low body fat percentage for years, Wu was often criticised in the past for appearing too thin on screen, with some viewers commenting that her facial features looked overly sharp because of her sunken cheeks.

Wu has acknowledged that being too slim was not always flattering. She previously shared that she could lose weight easily after skipping just one meal, so she would eat cheese before bedtime to maintain a healthier appearance.

She married actor Hong Yao, her co-star from Story of Yanxi Palace, in September 2024. Reports later claimed she became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter, although the couple never publicly confirmed the news. She is believed to have welcomed her baby in late March 2025 before returning to work later that year.

Recent behind-the-scenes footage from her upcoming costume drama Phoenix Does Not Roost showed Wu with noticeably fuller cheeks. While her figure remained hidden beneath traditional costume, fans felt her softer facial features made her look more elegant and youthful.

Many praised her refreshed appearance, commenting that she looks healthier, more confident and even more beautiful after becoming a mother.
