Thai Police Chief Turns Robber, Slashes His Own Throat When Arrested for Robbing Woman Vendor

A shocking incident recently unfolded in Trang Province, southern Thailand—where a serving police chief committed a public robbery and attempted suicide upon arrest.

At around 1:30 p.m. on May 3, a female street vendor was robbed by a man wearing a full-face helmet and riding an unlicensed motorcycle. Surveillance footage led police to identify the suspect as 46-year-old Police Chief Dilayut from the Hat Samran Police Station. It was later confirmed that part of the stolen gold had already been sold by the suspect.

On May 7, police arrived at the station with an arrest warrant. Upon learning he was about to be arrested, Dilayut broke down emotionally and slashed his own throat with a knife in front of colleagues. He was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Police say Dilayut will face multiple charges, including armed robbery, unlawful use of a vehicle, and carrying a weapon in public. Relatives and acquaintances revealed that he had long been suffering from severe financial problems and was suspected of drug involvement, which may have driven him to desperation.
