Manchester United Signs Cunha for £62.5M! Three Players Depart Old Trafford as Summer Rebuild Begins
As the Premier League season concludes, Manchester United has officially begun their summer rebuild. The club has announced the departure of three veterans—Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans—and has secured its first signing under new manager Ruben Amorim: Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. Cunha will wear the number 10 shirt and has signed a five-year contract, with a release clause of £62.5 million. Up next, United plans to bolster their forward line with Ipswich striker Liam Delap as their primary target.
After defeating Aston Villa 2-0 to close out the 2024/25 season, the Red Devils are shifting their focus to transfers. Eriksen, Lindelof, and Evans have all been confirmed to leave Old Trafford. Jonny Evans, aged 37 and a youth product, is expected to retire, while Eriksen (33) and Lindelof (30) will seek new opportunities as free agents. In his farewell, Eriksen said emotionally, "Bruno let me take the penalty as a parting gift. My years here have been amazing, filled with beautiful memories. I have no doubt I’ll be back one day."
Meanwhile, United has finalized their first summer signing: Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano’s famous “Here we go” confirmed the deal. United has activated the £62.5 million release clause for Cunha, who will sign until 2030, with an option to extend until 2031. He will also wear the iconic number 10 jersey—previously worn by Rashford, who is expected to leave this summer.
Cunha bid farewell to Wolves fans during their final Premier League game, waving and conducting the crowd’s chants in an emotional moment. With this signing complete, United will now turn their attention to finding a new striker, with Liam Delap of Ipswich reportedly at the top of the list, available for just £15 million.
The summer rebuild has officially begun for Manchester United. A new chapter under Amorim awaits.
