14 Years and €2 Billion Investment Finally Pay Off: Qatari Consortium Leads PSG to 5-0 UCL Final Triumph over Inter for Their First Title

In the UEFA Champions League final, Paris Saint-Germain achieved a resounding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan, claiming their first-ever Champions League trophy. Bild wrote after the match that the Qatari consortium’s 14 years of massive investment had finally paid off.

Back in June 2011, the Qatari consortium purchased a 70% stake in PSG for €50 million, officially taking control of the club. This move not only cleared PSG’s €20 million debt but also ushered the French powerhouse into the era of “financial football.”

Over the years, the Qatari owners continued to ramp up their investments: signing Zlatan Ibrahimović for €21 million, Edinson Cavani for €64.5 million, and eventually assembling the famous “dream trident” of Neymar (€222 million transfer), Mbappé (€180 million transfer), and Messi (free agent, with an annual salary of €41 million). Despite these star-studded lineups, PSG had failed to conquer Europe—most notably in 2020, when they fell short to Bayern Munich in the final under Thomas Tuchel.

Now, after more than €2 billion and 14 years of effort, the Qatari consortium’s gamble finally paid off in the 2025 Champions League final. PSG’s commanding 5-0 win rewrites the club’s history and delivers the long-awaited European crown.
