Switch 2 Sells Over 3.5 Million Units in 4 Days, Breaking Nintendo’s Launch Record
Nintendo's Switch 2 is off to a historic start. Just four days after launch, over 3.5 million units have been sold, making it the fastest-selling console in the company’s history. Analysts say if Nintendo can ramp up production, this momentum could grow even further. However, potential supply shortages and tariff concerns may test Nintendo’s ability to maintain this pace.
Nintendo announced that the newly released Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units within its first four days on the market, breaking the original Switch’s one-month record of 2.7 million units. This sets the strongest launch performance for any console in the company's history.
The company is on track to meet its sales goal of 15 million units for the 2026 fiscal year. However, demand has significantly outpaced supply. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa apologized for the shortages and stated that the company has requested suppliers to accelerate production. It has also partnered with Japanese e-commerce platforms like Rakuten and Mercari to curb scalping.
Analysts warn that if shortages persist, consumer interest may cool. Furukawa previously told investors that Nintendo’s top priority is to sustain sales momentum for as long as possible.
Given the higher price point of Switch 2 and global economic uncertainty, maintaining strong sales could be a challenge. Additionally, Furukawa hinted that under potential tariffs imposed by former President Trump, the console’s price may increase in the future.
