Intel's Server Market Share Drops to 62% as AMD Closes In: Market May Split Evenly by 2027

After decades of dominance in the server CPU sector, Intel is now facing a rapidly shifting competitive landscape. According to the latest market research, Intel’s share has dropped to 62% by the end of 2024, while AMD has surged to 33%, narrowing the gap significantly. Analysts now predict that by 2027, the two rivals could be on equal footing—a potential turning point for the industry.
This momentum stems from AMD’s breakthrough Zen architecture, which propelled its market share from around 10% in 2020 to over 20% by 2021–2022. AMD’s traction in the high-performance server segment has been particularly notable. Meanwhile, ARM-based processors are also gaining attention and are expected to reach a 10–12% market share by 2027.
According to IDC and Mercury Research, AMD’s revenue-based market share could rise to 36% by the end of 2025, with Intel’s falling to around 55%. If this trajectory continues, 2028 may witness AMD and Intel achieving near parity in the server market—a historic shift in industry power dynamics.
It’s important to note that these figures represent revenue share, not unit shipments. Intel continues to lead in volume sales, especially in budget-friendly segments. However, AMD is making substantial gains in the high-end market, where it has successfully attracted enterprise customers traditionally loyal to Intel.
With demand for AI, cloud computing, and high-density processing on the rise, the battle for server CPU dominance is entering a new, high-stakes phase.
