On Wednesday, FC Barcelona officially announced the loan signing of English winger Marcus Rashford from Manchester United for one season. The 27-year-old arrived at Camp Nou on Sunday and passed his medical, although his unveiling was delayed due to administrative processes in the UK.

As Barça’s “Plan C” after failed attempts to sign Nico Williams and Luis Díaz, Rashford joins without a transfer fee, though the club will cover his full £12 million salary. The deal includes a €30 million (£26 million) buy option next June; if not triggered, Barcelona must pay United up to £5 million in compensation. The contract also stipulates that United cannot recall him mid-season, ensuring his stay at Camp Nou until summer 2026.

Before donning the Blaugrana shirt, Rashford chose the No.14 jersey in tribute to his childhood idol Thierry Henry—also admired by his friend Jesse Lingard. “Henry was my hero. Lately, I’ve come to enjoy playing as a central striker too,” he said emotionally. Upon receiving the jersey from club president Joan Laporta, Rashford added: “Barça is a dream club for every player. I feel at home here already, and I’m eager to start my chapter and help the team lift the Champions League trophy.”

With this move, Rashford secures Champions League football for the second consecutive season, unlike Manchester United, who have missed out for two years. In response to recent comments from English legend Gary Lineker—“the problem isn’t Marcus, it’s Manchester United”—Rashford replied: “I won’t say anything bad about United. It was a huge part of my life and career, and I’m grateful for everything. Now, I’m focused fully on Barça and wish them all the best.”

Looking ahead to the season, Rashford made his ambitions clear: “It’s simple—I came to Barcelona to win the Champions League.” The club’s fitness staff have reportedly been impressed with his condition; despite not yet training with the team, Rashford showed excellent physical shape and explosiveness thanks to intense summer workouts in Manchester. Head coach Hansi Flick embraced him warmly after the medical, expressing high hopes for his integration.

However, Rashford’s debut will have to wait. The opening match of the Asian tour against Vissel Kobe has been canceled due to scheduling issues, and the fixtures against FC Seoul and Daegu FC remain unconfirmed. His anticipated reunion with former teammate Jesse Lingard may also be in doubt.

Regardless, the “Red Devil” star has set his sights on Camp Nou. Wearing the No.14 jersey, he carries his Champions League dreams—and begins a bold new journey in his career.
