Superstar Signing! From “CSL Flop” to €33M Transfer: Last Season’s Golden Boot Winner Joins European Giant

Ndiaye’s remarkable turnaround is a story that feels almost unbelievable. Once dismissed in China as a “CSL flop,” the former Shanghai Port forward has now secured a €4 million transfer (around RMB 33 million) to Turkish Super League contender Samsunspor—complete with a four-year contract. To put this in perspective, when he left the Chinese Super League, his transfer fee was a mere €600,000.
From Struggles in Shanghai to Bargain Exit
Back in the 2022 season, Ndiaye joined Shanghai Port for €1.2 million. However, he struggled to make an impact, scoring only 9 goals and providing 1 assist in 24 appearances—far below expectations for a foreign striker. The club quickly moved him on, selling him for just €600,000 to Demirspor in Turkey. The move left Shanghai Port at a financial loss and earned Ndiaye the harsh “flop” label from fans and media alike.
Yet, Demirspor quickly saw something others had missed. Ndiaye’s form improved, and he soon became a hot commodity. Not long after, he was transferred to Red Star Belgrade for €4 million. Since Shanghai Port still retained 65% of his rights, they unexpectedly pocketed €2.6 million from that deal—a twist of fate that softened their earlier misjudgment.
Golden Boot Glory in Serbia
At Red Star Belgrade, Ndiaye finally unleashed his full potential. Last season, he netted 19 goals and added 6 assists across all competitions, securing the Serbian SuperLiga Golden Boot. His value soared from just €1.5 million when he left China to an impressive €5 million today—a three-fold increase in only two years. Clearly, the issue was never his talent, but rather finding the right environment and tactical fit.
A New Chapter in Turkey
Now, Samsunspor has invested €4 million to bring him in, showing how highly he is regarded. The club, which finished third in the Turkish Super League last season behind giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, will also compete in the Europa Conference League this year. By signing Ndiaye as their marquee striker, they’ve signaled clear intent: he is expected to lead their attack on both domestic and European fronts.
From Rejected to Respected
Ndiaye’s journey highlights a broader truth—sometimes, players written off in the CSL thrive elsewhere. In China, he was unwanted. In Europe, he’s a star. Different environments, tactical systems, and coaching approaches can define a player’s destiny.
Now, with another former CSL player shining on the European stage, even Shanghai Port fans may feel a sense of pride watching Ndiaye’s rise. His story is a reminder that football is as much about timing and opportunity as it is about raw talent.

Trump Denies Urging Strike on Moscow, Draws Red Line in Ukraine Aid
On July 15, President Trump denied encouraging Ukraine to strike Moscow, stating it "should not be a target." He added the U.S. will not provide long-range missiles to Kyiv. At the same time, Ukraine extended its wartime status for the 16th time, while Russia responded to Trump’s 50-day ceasefire ultimatum by saying it “doesn’t care” and remains open to negotiation.
