In a landmark announcement, Intel and NVIDIA revealed a deep partnership to co-develop custom x86 CPUs, with TSMC manufacturing the wafers and Intel handling advanced packaging at its foundries.

The deal comes as NVIDIA invests $5 billion into Intel, becoming a major shareholder. Together, the companies will design multiple x86 CPU products for data centers and PCs, including x86 SoCs featuring integrated NVIDIA GPUs.

One of the flagship applications will be rack-scale AI supercomputers, powered by Intel CPUs tightly integrated with NVIDIA’s NVLink ecosystem. The target is massive: a $25 billion data center CPU market, plus the 150 million-unit annual laptop market.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang declared: “We are building revolutionary products—innovations the x86 market has never seen before.”

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger echoed: “NVIDIA leads in AI, Intel leads in CPUs. Together, we will unlock a new era of x86 innovation.”
