On October 1, Google announced a major update to its smart home lineup with the introduction of the new Google Home speaker, now powered by the Gemini AI assistant. A unique feature: when Gemini is listening, processing, or responding, a glowing light ring changes colors to reflect its activity—making AI interactions more intuitive.

The new Google Home boasts 360-degree audio and, in upcoming updates, will be able to pair with Google TV Streamer devices to create a surround-sound home theater setup. It remains fully compatible with other Google Nest devices and includes a physical microphone mute switch for privacy-conscious users.

The speaker will launch in spring 2026 at a retail price of $99, available in four colors—Porcelain White, Sandstone, Jade Green, and Berry Red. The first wave of availability covers over 20 regions including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany, Japan, and Australia.

Google also introduced new Nest Cam and Doorbell devices:

  • Nest Cam Indoor: $99.99
  • Nest Cam Outdoor: $149.99 (or $249 for a two-pack)
  • Nest Doorbell: $179.99

In addition, Google rolled out the Google Home Premium subscription service, replacing Nest Aware:

  • Standard Plan ($10/month or $100/year): includes Gemini Live (conversation without wake words), Ask Home automation help, 30-day video history, and smart alerts.
  • Premium Plan ($20/month or $200/year): adds AI-powered event descriptions, family brief summaries, and searchable video history via Ask Home.

Notably, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers get Home Premium for free—AI Pro users receive the Standard plan (with an option to upgrade), while AI Ultra members automatically unlock the Premium tier.
