China’s Railways Exceed 100 Million Passenger Trips During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Holidays

October 5 – IT Home — According to the official “China Railway” WeChat account, on October 4 alone, the national railway network transported 18.33 million passengers, bringing the total number of trips during the holiday period (September 29 – October 4) to over 110 million. As of October 5, rail passenger traffic continues to run at a high level, with a projected 17.55 million passengers expected for the day. To meet the surge in travel demand, 927 additional trains have been scheduled across the network.

Travel Trends Across Major Cities

Based on 12306 pre-sale data, the most popular departure cities include Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Chongqing, Changsha, and Shenzhen, while the top arrival destinations are Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Nanjing, Chongqing, and Xi’an.
High passenger volumes are concentrated along busy intercity routes such as Shenzhen–Hong Kong, Chengdu–Xi’an, Hong Kong–Shenzhen, Xi’an–Chengdu, Nanning–Guangzhou, Shenyang–Beijing, Changsha–Wuhan, Wuhan–Changsha, Zhengzhou–Beijing, and Hohhot–Beijing.

Ticket Availability

For October 5, tickets remain available on several popular routes including Hong Kong–Shenzhen, Beijing–Shanghai, Beijing–Shenyang, Beijing–Hohhot, Beijing–Xi’an, Beijing–Taiyuan, Beijing–Harbin, and Guangzhou–Nanning. Limited availability remains for routes such as Guangzhou–Hong Kong, Guangzhou–Nanchang, Shanghai–Guiyang, Shanghai–Wuhan, Shanghai–Changsha, Shenzhen–Wuhan, Xi’an–Chengdu, and Xinyang–Zhengzhou.

During the post-holiday return rush (October 6–10), additional ticket availability can be found for routes such as Hong Kong–Guangzhou, Hong Kong–Shenzhen, Beijing–Shanghai, Beijing–Taiyuan, Beijing–Shenyang, Beijing–Hohhot, and Guangzhou–Nanning. Meanwhile, certain trains between Shanghai–Wuhan, Shanghai–Zhengzhou, Shanghai–Nanchang, Guangzhou–Nanchang, Guangzhou–Chongqing, Nanning–Guangzhou, Shenzhen–Wuhan, Shenzhen–Nanchang, and Chengdu–Xi’an still have remaining seats.
