(Hong Kong, 13 Sept) Japanese actress Takako Tokiwa, 54, paid tribute to her late friend and former co-star Leslie Cheung on 12 September, which marked what would have been his 70th birthday.

Tokiwa, who starred alongside Cheung in the 1999 film “Moonlight Express”, shared a black-and-white photo of them together and wrote in English and Chinese: “My dearest Leslie, everyone loves you. Happy birthday, Gor Gor.”

The touching post brought back memories among fans. Tokiwa has maintained a strong connection with Hong Kong over the years and previously visited the city to pay tribute to Cheung.

She has also repeatedly described Cheung as one of the actors she respected most and most wanted to work with.

Tokiwa previously revealed that she had expressed her desire to enter the film industry and specifically hoped to work with Cheung. With her Japanese dramas already popular in Hong Kong at the time, she was eventually cast opposite him in “Moonlight Express”, creating a memorable cross-cultural screen partnership.
