Quan Hongchan — The Pride of Her Village! Hometown Celebrates with Fireworks as She Claims Gold, While Her Family Stays Low-Key

On November 3rd, at the 2025 National Games, diving sensation Quan Hongchan teamed up with Wang Weiying to capture the gold medal in the women’s synchronized 10-meter platform, leading Team Guangdong to successfully defend their title!

Back in her hometown, Maihe Village in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, the entire community erupted in joy — villagers set off fireworks to celebrate their star athlete’s victory.

This marks Quan Hongchan’s first official competition in 183 days, and she made a stunning comeback — scoring the highest marks in all three dives and edging out the Chen Yuxi/Zhang Minjie pair by just 0.9 points. With this win, Quan helped Guangdong secure back-to-back team golds and achieved her second consecutive women’s team title personally.

As the news spread to her village, the atmosphere turned festive overnight. “This is nothing!” joked a netizen. “When she won Olympic gold in Tokyo, the whole village paved a new concrete road that very night!”

By the next morning, visitors crowded outside her family’s home to take photos — though, interestingly, the house belongs to her uncle. Quan’s parents and brother still live in their fruit orchard up in the hills, while their new three-and-a-half-story villa is under construction and expected to be completed by the end of the year.

When asked if she would attend her daughter’s event in person, Quan’s mother, Feng Lingmei, said she had no such plans yet. For now, none of Quan’s immediate family attended the team competition — and they’re also unlikely to show up for the individual synchronized 10m platform event the next day.
