IT Home reports on November 16 that, according to Xinhua News Agency, Russian cosmonaut Alexei Zubritsky has made history aboard the International Space Station by successfully using biometric authentication to access Russia’s “State Services” portal and complete an official procedure.

From orbit, Zubritsky carried out an online request to block unauthorized applications for a mobile SIM card under his name. The entire process took just 30 seconds. With this service enabled, no one can apply for a SIM card on his behalf even if they possess his personal documents.

“State Services” is Russia’s official digital governance platform, allowing citizens to apply for driver’s licenses, book medical appointments, pay taxes, manage documents, and more. Users can log in with a username and password or authenticate through facial recognition—now proven to work even in space.
