On November 30, Huayang Group’s high-performance carbon fiber project was completed and put into production in Datong, Shanxi Province, successfully achieving domestic mass production of 12K tow T1000-grade carbon fiber. This milestone represents a critical breakthrough in large-scale production of high-performance carbon fiber in China, accelerating the country’s self-reliance in high-end new materials.

High-performance carbon fiber, hailed as the “King of New Materials”, is the lifeblood and vanguard of global high-tech development, advanced defense technologies, and industrial transformation. It is a key direction in China’s strategic emerging industries.

The project’s first phase features a 200-ton-per-year demonstration production line for T1000-grade carbon fiber. Single fibers are only 6–7 microns in diameter, less than 1/10 the thickness of human hair, yet exhibit a tensile strength exceeding 6400 MPa. With a density just 1/4 of steel, its strength is more than five times stronger than steel. A 1-meter strand weighs only 0.5 grams but can bear a load of over 200 kilograms.

The T1000 carbon fiber produced in this phase also features high strength, light weight, temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, earning it the title of “Earth’s strongest material”. This domestic breakthrough breaks reliance on imported high-end carbon fiber and has broad applications in defense, aerospace, rail transit, and low-altitude economy, playing a crucial role in securing China’s strategic materials.
