Beijing time on December 6, the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup in Chengdu continued its high-intensity competition. Today marked the final matchday of Stage Two, where the top four teams would be decided. At 12:00 noon, the spotlight showdown arrived as China faced Japan. The opening match featured the mixed doubles pairings: China’s elite duo Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha against Japan’s Hayasuke Hozumi and Miwa Harimoto.

In the first game, Harimoto opened with the serve and Japan struck aggressively to claim the first point, but Hozumi’s follow-up shot hit the net. From that moment, the Chinese pair quickly settled into rhythm, taking full control and sealing the first game with a rapid 11–4 win.

The second game saw Wang Chuqin continue his strong momentum, delivering explosive forehand counters with impressive accuracy. The teams traded points to 3–3 before China surged ahead. Wang’s backhand flick forced Hozumi into an error, and Sun followed with a sharp cross-court winner to make it 5–3. After Sun’s serve, Wang stepped around for a clean down-the-line attack, while Harimoto responded by controlling the short game. Hozumi managed to find an opening for a forehand winner at 4–6, but despite Japan’s efforts to close the gap, China remained firmly in command, finishing the game 11–6 and extending their lead to 2–0.

In the third game, Wang and Sun opened with a strong 5–1 lead. Hozumi managed a solid forehand counter, but the Chinese duo remained unstoppable, stretching the score to 9–3 with a series of precise attacks. Wang then blasted a backhand flick to secure seven match points, followed by a heavy forehand loop. Japan saved a couple of points through quick counterattacks, but the outcome was inevitable. China wrapped up the game 11–5 and claimed a dominant 3–0 victory over the Japanese pair.

With this commanding win, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha once again proved why they are the national team’s premier mixed doubles pair—efficient, powerful, and untouchable on the world stage.
