Rebuild Blueprint: Real Madrid Set to Spend €180M on Two Superstars This Summer, Appoint a New On-Field Commander to Link Up With Mbappé

Real Madrid’s performance this season has fallen well short of expectations, and both the club’s leadership and coaching staff believe change is now unavoidable—especially in areas where the squad looks thin or unbalanced. According to AS, while Madrid are not fans of full-scale overhauls, two positions have clearly been identified as priorities: centre-back and midfield. The club feels the current “top-heavy” structure must be corrected with targeted reinforcements.
The future of Álvaro Arbeloa has not been officially confirmed, and whether he remains in place will depend on results. However, regardless of who is in the dugout, it is not expected to change the transfer roadmap being shaped at Valdebebas. Internal analysis at the training ground indicates the squad needs fresh energy—particularly a technically refined, modern midfielder who can control the tempo and keep the team’s play ticking. That is also why the club avoided rushing into moves during the winter window, preferring to make a decisive call in the summer.
In midfield, the top target remains Vitinha. At 25, he has developed into a genuine world-class presence at Paris Saint-Germain, widely seen as the side’s “brain”—able to organise attacks and dictate rhythm. This season, he has made 30 appearances, contributing 6 goals and 10 assists, delivering consistent performances across competitions.
Convincing PSG to sell, however, will be a major challenge. Vitinha is tied to a contract running until 2029, and his valuation is understood to be extremely high. Even so, Madrid view him as the kind of central organiser the team has been missing—someone who can arrive as a true on-pitch commander and immediately elevate how the side functions in possession.
There is also a natural chemistry factor in play. Kylian Mbappé previously played alongside Vitinha in Paris, and a reunion in Madrid would likely accelerate their understanding on the field. The belief inside the club is that adding a high-level midfield organiser would not only improve Madrid’s control in matches, but also help Mbappé operate with more support, structure, and clarity in attacking phases.
At centre-back, Madrid’s shortlist is broader, and the newest name under strong consideration is Jorrel Hato. The 20-year-old defender has drawn attention from several European giants, including Liverpool F.C., Chelsea F.C., and FC Bayern Munich. With interest intensifying, the player’s situation has effectively entered a bidding phase—meaning his fee could rise to around €70 million.
Led by chief scout Juni Calafat, Real Madrid are expected to evaluate multiple suitable candidates and are already opening talks. The club believes Hato has the profile to develop into a top-level centre-back, with some internally even viewing him as a potential “next Varane”—a defender who could grow into a long-term pillar at the heart of Madrid’s back line.
