Malaysia Men’s Team Takes Silver in a Gallant Final Effort

(Bangkok, 20th) Malaysia’s men’s sabre team delivered an impressive run at the SEA Games in Thailand, finishing with the team silver medal. The achievement was made even more meaningful by the return of 31-year-old Ng Zhe Quan, a software engineer based in New York, who teamed up with California-based product designer Ser Adam Aime to help Malaysia secure the podium finish.

In the men’s sabre team final held yesterday, Malaysia—fielding Ng Zhe Quan, Ser Adam Aime, Terry Dong, and Sebastian Sheng—fell 27–45 to Vietnam, missing out on gold but still registering one of the team’s standout results at the Games.

Ng, who stepped away from fencing after the 2015 SEA Games and spent four years in the United States for further studies, rejoined the national set-up for this edition and quickly rediscovered his form. “It feels really good to be back on the podium,” he said. “After 2015 I left sabre, and honestly I didn’t think I’d return. But the training and competition experience in the U.S. was invaluable—the level of competition is very intense.”

He added that he believes he has yet to fully reach his potential and hopes to continue contributing to Malaysia. “This silver medal gives me the motivation to keep fencing.”

Meanwhile, Ser Adam Aime said the Games provided a chance for him to prove his abilities. Based in California working in product design, he noted that he and Ng could even explore entrepreneurship together. Competing in his second SEA Games, he believes the team has strong overall quality and significant room to improve. “We want to challenge for gold at the 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia,” he said.
