As 2025 draws to a close, China News reported that during the 14th Five-Year Plan, Chinese athletes set 91 world records and won 665 world championships, with Quan Hongchan receiving special mention.

This year, the 18-year-old Quan faced injuries and criticisms of her physique, yet she made a triumphant return at the National Games, securing the women’s team gold medal. She also enrolled at Jinan University, becoming a college student. As a triple Olympic gold medalist, she remains a national favorite, with central media showing their support for her three times in just three days.

On December 25, the People’s Daily released the “Cheer for Yourself” video, featuring Quan twice with her radiant smile, accompanied by the caption: “Life is full of twists and obstacles,” conveying encouragement and resilience.

On December 27, Guangming Daily released a video titled “Faces We Won’t Forget in 2025,” with Quan and Su Bingtian as the only athletes featured. As the sole active athlete, her victorious comeback and touching the gold medal at the award ceremony carried profound significance.

On the same day, China News listed representative world champions of the 14th Five-Year Plan, including Fan Zhendong, Sun Yingsha, Wang Chuqin, Ma Long, Chen Meng, Wang Shun, Pan Zhanle, Zhang Yufei, Quan Hongchan, Zheng Qinwen, and Lin Xiaojun. Quan Hongchan is the only diver among them, standing shoulder to shoulder with five table tennis world champions, reflecting the high recognition and esteem she commands in China’s central media.
