Apple’s Next Blockbuster May Not Be the iPhone: It’s Reviving the Much-Mocked Ai Pin, with an Initial Run of 20 Million Units

Apple’s most anticipated upcoming product may not be an iPhone.

According to The Information, Apple is developing a screenless AI device resembling an AirTag, with functionality similar to the widely criticized Ai Pin. Powered by computer vision and voice interaction, the device is seen as Apple’s bid for a post-iPhone AI entry point, potentially launching around 2027.

While earlier screenless AI hardware struggled in execution, Apple believes its strengths in custom silicon, on-device AI, supply chain control, and ecosystem integration can make the difference.

In parallel, Apple is overhauling Siri. A next-generation version, reportedly codenamed “Campos,” will transform Siri into a system-level AI assistant capable of conversation, content generation, screen awareness, and direct task execution across iOS and macOS.

Crucially, Apple’s AI leap may rely partly on Google, with reports suggesting deep integration of customized Gemini models—highlighting Apple’s urgency to catch up in generative AI.

As Sam Altman has noted, the real AI battleground is shifting from the cloud to user devices. Whether Apple can redefine that battleground remains uncertain—but staying on the sidelines is no longer an option.
