In Saturday’s Chongqing Super League (Yuchao) clash, Jiulongpo edged Dadukou 1–0 in a tense match that later spiraled into controversy. The flashpoint came deep into stoppage time, when Dadukou believed they had scored a dramatic last-gasp equalizer—only for the referee to disallow the goal.
In the second minute of added time, a Dadukou player powered in a header that appeared to make it 1–1. However, the referee immediately blew the whistle and ruled the goal out. Slow-motion replays indicated the decision was correct: during the build-up, when Dadukou delivered a low cross from the byline, the ball had already fully crossed out of play.
Despite the accuracy of the call, Dadukou players reacted with visible frustration and quickly lost control. As the referee attempted to manage the situation, Dadukou’s captain allegedly charged into him with his chest before pointing and shouting abuse. In the confrontation, a finger jab reportedly even struck the referee near the eye.
The incident escalated further as multiple Dadukou players swarmed the referee. Even after security personnel entered the pitch, the chaos did not immediately subside. Several substitute players also ran onto the field to join the confrontation, intensifying the disorder.
Beyond the pressure on the main official, reports suggested some Dadukou players attempted to chase the assistant referee and provoked opposing players, widening the conflict across the pitch.
The episode adds to ongoing concerns about discipline in regional competitions. Similar violent incidents have previously been reported in Sichuan’s amateur leagues, including cases of players kicking referees and striking opponents during matches.
