Former TVB executive Stephen Chan invited actor Louis Cheung and singer-actress Kay Tse (Tse On-kay) to appear as guests on his online talk show. It marked the couple’s first joint interview as a married pair in their 18 years of marriage, as they opened up about their relationship, life turning points, and personal growth.
Chan began by congratulating Kay on placing second in the 2025 “Professional Recommendations – Top Ten” category with her song 50/50. Kay revealed that she was hospitalized shortly before the awards ceremony due to illness, yet still insisted on performing that night. She said she wanted to thank her team, family, and friends, and to mark the results of a year of hard work with her company.
Louis shared that the entire family watched the live broadcast at home, feeling especially anxious about Kay’s health. He admitted that stepping on stage comes with no excuses: no matter the age, “if you don’t sing well, there’s no justification.” He only relaxed after hearing her complete the performance.
Kay explained that 50/50 reflects her emotional journey from confusion to learning how to let go. She said that after turning 45, she struggled with uncertainty and fatigue, and spent a long period caught in inner conflict. When Chan asked how Louis handled that period, he joked that he simply tried to make her laugh. He compared them to athletes—“She’s the boxer, I’m the coach”—encouraging her to restart and staying by her side through the low moments.
When asked what drew them to each other and led to marriage, both answered in sync that it felt like they had been “bewitched.” Kay recalled that Louis was the first friend she made after entering the industry, and she immediately found him fascinating: he could talk for two hours straight, and she genuinely enjoyed listening. She laughed that she believes even in their 80s, seeing him would still make her happy, and hearing him speak would still make her laugh. Louis, meanwhile, answered instantly: “Because she’s beautiful.”
Reflecting on how they have changed over the years, Kay said Louis seemed to undergo a “soul swap” after turning 30—transforming from someone quick-tempered into a calmer, more emotionally controlled and mature person. Louis agreed that he used to carry a lot of anger, and described how their experiences once went to extremes: Kay went from happily singing “in the background” to being pushed into the spotlight under constant scrutiny, while he felt almost invisible—“as if no one would even look at me through a telescope.” He thanked Kay for growing alongside him and supporting each other, adding that “Kay sleeping peacefully every night is the greatest gift to me.”
Asked about their happiest moments, Kay said much of their joy comes from everyday, silly humor. She shared one memorable incident: Louis once dreamed he was filming an action scene and suddenly threw a punch—accidentally hitting their newborn daughter’s pacifier area—leaving Kay both shocked and amused, exclaiming, “Hit me instead—why hit our daughter?”
