(SEATTLE, 27th) Starbucks, the U.S. coffee chain giant, disclosed in a filing that CEO Brian Niccol saw his total compensation sharply reduced last year, plunging 68% to US$31 million (about RM122.57 million).

According to the document, Niccol’s pay package included a US$5 million (about RM19.676 million) bonus and nearly US$20 million (about RM79.04 million) in stock awards. By comparison, his 2024 compensation reached US$96 million (about RM379.39 million), driven largely by more than US$90 million (about RM355.68 million) in stock-based awards. Those equity grants and other incentives were part of the recruitment package offered to lure Niccol from Mexican-food chain Chipotle to Starbucks.

Niccol took over as Starbucks CEO in September 2024. However, Starbucks shares fell 7.7% last year, marking a fourth consecutive annual decline, which cost Niccol his performance-based bonus.
