Nearly one year since Barbie Hsu’s passing, DJ Koo is personally arranging a memorial statue, set to be unveiled on the anniversary

(Taipei, Jan 29) Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu (Xu Xiyuan), widely known as “Da S,” passed away in February 2025 while traveling in Japan. She died at the age of 48 after influenza complications led to pneumonia. Nearly a year later, memories and discussions about her continue to resurface online. On Wednesday (Jan 28), reports emerged that a memorial statue for Hsu has been confirmed and will be unveiled next month—on the first anniversary of her passing.

According to Taiwanese media, Hsu died in Tokyo on Feb 2, 2025. Her ashes were flown back to Taiwan via a private charter on Feb 5, and she was laid to rest on March 15 at the Rose Garden area of Jinbaoshan Cemetery, accompanied by her husband DJ Koo (Koo Jun-yup), her younger sister Dee Hsu (Xiao S), and other family members. Over the past year, Koo has been spotted visiting the cemetery alone on multiple occasions, drawing public attention. Hsu’s mother has previously confirmed that Koo personally designed the memorial statue.

Reports say the Hsu family plans to hold a low-key unveiling ceremony on Feb 2 at Jinbaoshan. The ceremony will be simple: family members including Xiao S, Hsu’s mother, and Koo will remove the black cloth covering the statue, then spend a moment in front of it to share their thoughts and remembrance. Close friends and relatives, including celebrity friends, are also expected to attend.

To avoid media disruption and keep the event private, the family is said to hire security around the area to prevent reporters from approaching. It has also been reported that Koo will remain in Taiwan for the time being after the unveiling, continuing to stay close in memory of Hsu.
