Missed the Expressway Exit, Reversed on the Spot—Driver Hit With 12 Points; Passenger’s “Can You Deduct Some From My License?” Comment Steals the Show

Fast Tech News reported on February 1 that reversing at an expressway exit is a dangerous move that puts both the driver and others at serious risk. The Traffic Management Bureau of China’s Ministry of Public Security has now shared a representative case as a warning to all motorists.

The incident occurred on December 11, 2025, along the Hubei Anlu section of the Fuyin Expressway. During routine video patrol, traffic police spotted a white car that had already passed an interchange exit. The driver suddenly braked to a stop, switched on the hazard lights, and then reversed all the way back toward the interchange before entering the ramp and leaving the expressway—clearly an attempt to “recover” a missed exit.

Officers quickly identified the vehicle by its license plate and contacted the driver, presenting video evidence and asking for an explanation. However, what happened next was even more surprising: a woman traveling with the driver said, “If his license gets 12 points deducted, can you deduct a little from mine instead?” Police immediately corrected the misunderstanding on the spot, rejected the unreasonable request, and provided safety education.

In accordance with the law, the driver was fined 200 yuan for reversing on the expressway. The violation also resulted in a 12-point deduction, and the driver’s license was temporarily withheld.

Traffic police emphasized that expressway driving requires advance route planning. Drivers should set up navigation before departure and familiarize themselves with key points along the route, including toll gates, service areas, interchanges, and major junctions.

While driving, motorists should closely watch road signs and follow navigation prompts. When they see or hear reminders that an exit is about two kilometers ahead, they should prepare early and change lanes safely toward the right, helping avoid missed exits—especially when traffic is heavy near ramps.

Most importantly, if you do miss an exit, never slam on the brakes, slow down abruptly, stop, reverse, or drive against traffic. The only safe and legal option is to continue forward to the next exit, leave the expressway, and then replan your route. It may take a bit more time, but it’s the only choice that protects lives and keeps you on the right side of the law.
