Thankful for Koo Jun-yup’s陪伴 during Barbie Hsu’s “final three years”; Dee Hsu’s full speech revealed.

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2 last year in Japan due to influenza-related complications at the age of 48. She was laid to rest at Jinbaoshan Cemetery. On February 2 this year, marking the first anniversary of her passing, a memorial statue designed by her husband, Koo Jun-yup, was officially unveiled in a ceremony attended by family and close friends despite the rain.

As the pink drape was slowly drawn back, emotions ran high. Barbie’s mother and her sister Dee Hsu were seen gently touching the statue, with her mother reportedly embracing it in tears, creating a deeply moving scene.

The statue, predominantly white, reflects Barbie Hsu’s signature elegance. With her hands folded over her chest, eyes softly closed, and a serene smile on her face, the sculpture conveys peace and grace. A bow on her head symbolizes her youthful spirit, while her pleated long skirt appears to sway gently in the rain.

During her emotional speech, Dee Hsu thanked Koo Jun-yup for designing the beautiful memorial and expressed hope that everyone who misses Barbie can come here to “talk to her.” She shared that remembering how her sister was lovingly accompanied and protected by Koo during her final three years brings her a sense of calm amid grief.

Dee also mentioned her mother’s reaction upon seeing the statue, quoting her as saying, “My baby, you’ve been reborn.” She added that she believes her mother’s heart was finally comforted at that moment.

The ceremony lasted about an hour and concluded peacefully. Afterward, Dee bowed three times to the media as a gesture of gratitude.
