Over the past three seasons, the beverage arm of China Resources Group has retained title sponsorship of the Chinese Super League — yet under different names each year. From “China Resources Yibao” to “China Resources Beverage,” and now simply “Yibao,” the branding adjustments reflect a deliberate strategy to preserve brand equity while minimizing exposure risk.
Sponsorship Fee Reduced by Over 70 Million RMB
Financially, the shift is even clearer. Initial annual investments were measured in hundreds of millions of RMB. Over three years, the total sponsorship fee has reportedly dropped by more than 70 million RMB.
Less money, but sustained visibility. The brand still dominates broadcast mentions, stadium LED boards, official posters, and league press materials. From a corporate perspective, the equation remains favorable — optimized exposure at controlled cost. What’s missing is the bold spending confidence of the past.
From Peak Commercial Boom to Strategic Prudence
Two decades ago, the league’s commercial climate was dramatically different. In the Jia-A era, tobacco giants entered aggressively, followed by fast-moving consumer brands and multinational manufacturers. Securing naming rights was akin to capturing a scarce strategic asset.
The commercial apex came during the decade-long title sponsorship by Ping An Insurance. During that golden stretch, stadium attendance soared, broadcasting rights commanded premium prices, and league storylines consistently generated nationwide buzz. Sponsorship investments multiplied in value, and advertising inventory was in high demand.
Today, while the CSL is stabilizing, the market has shifted toward calculated risk management. Three consecutive rebrandings of the title sponsor signal not retreat — but repositioning.
The era of aggressive expansion has given way to one of disciplined optimization.
