Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently warned that many roles previously dependent on sheer human manpower will require fewer people in the future. He described the industry as undergoing a profound “transformation period.”
- Cloud solution architects, a role nonexistent 15 years ago, now employ tens of thousands.
- While AI increases demand for certain engineering positions and creates new markets for training data, previously hyped roles like “AI prompt engineer” have largely faded.
- In a June 2025 internal memo, Jassy stated that broad AI adoption would likely reduce overall employee headcount; he reiterated at the Davos World Economic Forum in January 2026 that AI will make programming, customer service, research, and analysis more efficient.
